Where does my knowledge come from?
I have lived in a city, small town and a tiny hamlet.
I lived through the divorce of my parents at a young age. Then through both of them remarrying. And then through one set divorcing again when I was an adult.
I have one full brother (same mom and dad), a half sister (same mom, different dad), and a half brother (same dad, different mom). Because my half siblings are so much younger than I, it feels like I had a trial run at parenting before I started my own family. This gave me the opportunity to see the results of my parents parenting style unfold.
Credentials. People like to know what higher education I have on this topic. I have 4 years of post-secondary training, concentrating on children, families and the dynamics of the two, an Education assistant certificate, concentrating on children with additional needs, a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, and a management certificate in Early Childhood Education. I have taken many professional development programs related to children and positive parenting and subscribe to parenting magazines and professional magazines related to the field of child development.
Through my work and home life I have used techniques that worked and ones that failed. The goal of this blog is to share them with others. It would be strange to just up and tell people what might help in any given situation. This is my outlet to share my knowledge in hopes of making life more pleasant for families.
Parenting is a lot of trial and error and there is no manual on how to do it. Through humour and experience in these posts, I hope you find a tiny bit of light and have the chance to create more joy for you and your child(ren).
